The California State University offers a conference geared towards providing resources and information to educators that assist students in the attaining a college education. The conference takes place every fall in either late September or Early October in various areas throughout the state. The conference provides several workshops/sessions so that educators may get better acquainted with the CSU system, its campuses, resources, and application process. The most valuable session for me was the
Supporting Students Through EOP High School. Below are some key highlights that I believe are important and helpful:
What is EOP?:
- Provides academic and retention to first-generation, historically low income and educationally disadvantaged students.
- Targets students who have the potential to perform satisfactorily in the CSU but have not been able to realize this because of economic or educational background.
EOP Resources:
- Summer Bridge: transition program for first-time freshman
- Advisement and register for classes
- Assistance with finalizing financial aid and housing
- Orientation
- EOP Grant
- Academic Advisement
- Career/Job preparation support
